Enjoy the local countryside at Millington Wood and Eastrington Ponds

A host of exciting outdoor events will be taking place around East Yorkshire over the coming weeks, giving some very special and unique opportunities to watch wildlife at local nature reserves.

On Sunday, 1 May, there will be a spring woodland birdwatch taking place at Millington Wood Local Nature Reserve between 10am and12:30pm. Led by Margaret Boyd, a local bird watching guide from Yorkshire Coast Nature, on this discovery walk participants can seek out resident birds as well as newly-arrived summer migrants. It's International Dawn Chorus Day and the birds will carry on singing their wonderfully tuneful songs when the walkers arrive a little later in mid-morning. Binoculars are available to borrow but participants should bring their own if possible. On Sunday, 15 May, there will be a chance to come along to Eastrington Ponds Local Nature Reserve for a small animal safari, a unique opportunity to explore the nature reserve and track down some secretive small mammals. Participants can assist with finding and opening the special live capture survey traps which have been specially prepared for the safari, and discover who is inside. Afterwards, the mammals will be released back into their natural homes. The event runs between 10am and 12:30pm.
